What's a spool?
The reel your filament comes wound on, usually a kilogram of plastic.

- 1 kg of PLA≈ 330 m
Why it matters
- A tangle or a snag stops the filament, and the print fails.
- Most filaments soak up moisture from the air, and wet filament prints badly.
Tips from the workshop
- Clip the loose end into the spool’s edge holes when you put it away.
- Store open spools in a sealed box with desiccant.
- Weigh the spool before a long print, so it doesn’t run out halfway.
