The Reinforcements

What's metal filament?

PLA or PETG packed with metal powder: heavy, and it can be polished to look like real metal.

Meet MelMel is heavy and shines up like metal, but has a plastic heart.

Base plasticusually PLA or PETGMixed inmetal powder (copper, bronze, steel, tungsten…)

Nozzle 190–270 °C · Bed 60–100 °C

Prusa, for wood- and metal-filled filaments (depends on the base). Typical ranges from one maker’s data sheet. Brands differ: the label on your spool wins.

Why it matters

  • Sand it wet (600 to 1500 grit or finer), then polish: it shines like metal.
  • It looks like metal but is weaker than the plain plastic.

Tips from the workshop

  • Metal-filled filament is highly abrasive: hardened steel nozzle only.
