Printer part

What's a layer?

One flat slice of the print. The printer builds every object from the bed up, one thin layer on top of the last.

Meet LyraNothing gets built in one go: it goes up one layer at a time. Calm, patient, step by step. That is Lyra.

Why it matters

  • Thinner layers make smoother curves and slopes, but the print takes longer.
  • The lines you can see on the side of a print are the layers: the thinner they are, the less they show.

Tips from the workshop

  • 0.2 mm is the right start for almost everything on a 0.4 mm nozzle.
  • Go finer only for small figures and curved faces; flat parts gain nothing.
  • Variable layer height in the slicer gives fine layers only where the shape curves.
